I Missed Flight Due to Check-in Delays by Turkish Airlines
On July 30th, I purchased tickets for my parents for the 11:15 AM flight from Istanbul New Airport to Kayseri Airport. On the day of the flight, I dropped them off at the airport at 9:30 AM and left. However, at 10:40 AM, my mother called to inform me that they couldn't get their tickets and missed the flight. They had waited in line for nearly an hour for the check-in process. While waiting, a THY staff member began scanning IDs to assist with ticket processing. When the staff member scanned my parents' IDs, he said that there were no seats available under their names, even though it was 55 minutes before the flight. The staff member was surprised and advised them to wait until they reached the counter. When they finally got to the counter 40 minutes before the flight, the counter staff said they were too late and couldn't issue the tickets. My elderly parents, who are around 70 years old, were left stranded. Their tickets were voided, and after waiting at the airport for nearly 2 hours, I had to pick them up and take them to the bus station, resulting in a 12-hour bus journey. What puzzled me was that the staff member said there were no seats available when scanning their IDs, but the counter staff claimed they were late and couldn't issue the tickets. This incident made me believe the allegations that THY sells the same tickets to multiple people. We were severely inconvenienced. I do not forgive those responsible and have decided to seek legal action. By the way, I have previously completed the check-in process just 25 minutes before a flight.
