Trip.com Charged More Than The Price Shown During Ticket Purchase
I purchased round-trip airline tickets for the Istanbul–Tokyo route through Trip.com.
During the purchase process, the total all-inclusive amount displayed on the screen was approximately $2,585. However, when the transaction appeared on my account statement, the charged amount was approximately $2,674, meaning I was forced to pay more than $80 extra due to so-called cross-border transaction and currency conversion charges.
At no point during the payment process was I clearly or transparently informed that the payment would be processed in a foreign currency, which currency would actually be used for the transaction, or that additional exchange-rate differences, commissions, or international transaction fees could significantly increase the final amount charged to my card.
I completed the payment on April 28, 2026, using my Yapı Kredi credit card.
When I contacted Trip.com customer service regarding this issue, they stated that the payment had been processed as an international transaction and claimed that the exchange-rate difference and additional charges were entirely caused by the bank. They rejected responsibility and directed the matter completely toward the bank.
However, if the sale is being made through a Turkish-language platform targeting customers in Türkiye, I believe the final payable amount should be stated clearly from the beginning and that any possible additional deductions, exchange-rate differences, or foreign transaction commissions should be transparently disclosed before payment confirmation.
I request that Trip.com investigate this excessive charge reflected on my account and refund the approximately $80 that was unfairly collected from me.
