Aloma Rent a Car Strands Family at Airport Over Invalid License Claim

On June 25 at 2:00 PM, we reserved a Volvo XC60 through the Economy Booking website from Aloma Rent a Car and paid in advance. Upon landing at Barcelona Airport, we went to the Aloma office to collect our vehicle; however, despite holding an internationally valid driver's license and having driven in various European countries for weeks with the exact same license without any issues, they demanded an additional international driving permit and refused to hand over the car on those grounds.

At the very beginning of our family vacation, they essentially left us stranded at the airport without offering any alternative solutions or assistance. We spoke with two different employees at the office, but neither made any effort to resolve our problem, and their attitude and communication style were extremely offensive and dismissive. As a result, we were forced to rent another vehicle from a neighboring rental company at a much higher price.

I drove that vehicle for seven days and returned it to Madrid Airport on July 2 at 12:00 PM without any issues. The fact that I was able to drive for days with a car rented from another company using the exact same driver's license clearly demonstrates how unfounded Aloma Rent a Car's rationale was. This ordeal at the start of our vacation left my family frustrated and deeply upset.

Because Aloma Rent a Car's Barcelona Airport office failed to deliver the vehicle and forced me to rent another car at the last minute for a much higher rate, I demand a full reimbursement for this inflated rental cost and proper resolution for the hardship we experienced.
