On your December 28 flight FR5551 from Bergamo/Milan to Cologne, I experienced a very serious and extremely exhausting ordeal. The plane, which was scheduled to depart at 11:15 PM, was repeatedly delayed, and passengers were given almost no accurate information. I was traveling with my 4-year-old and 6-year-old children, both of whom were well past their bedtimes, and we were forced to wait in this uncertainty. Even though I paid $160 for what was supposed to be a $20 ticket, the quality of service we received was deeply disappointing. After a delay of more than 1½–2 hours, the flight finally took off. Once we boarded, instead of seating us together as a family, our seats were split in a very illogical way. While I, as the mother, was seated next to my two small children, their father was placed alone on the opposite side of the aisle. On top of that, we were charged an extra $32 for seat selection even though no consideration was given to family seating. As my children tried to sleep from exhaustion, their heads kept falling into the aisle space and onto the woman sitting next to us. This was uncomfortable for them and unsafe. The attitude of the flight attendants in the cabin was also extremely casual and unprofessional. Even though it was around 2 AM, the cabin lights were not dimmed for a long time, and because we were seated in the very last row, we were constantly subjected to the flight attendants laughing loudly and engaging in unnecessary chatter. I clearly saw that they had a civilian friend on the plane, and this was reflected in their behavior. They showed no concern for passengers’ ability to rest — especially families with children — and they did not do their job properly. I believe what I experienced violated passenger rights. Because of the long delay and lack of communication, the failure to consider family seating despite charging extra for seat selection, and the disrespectful and careless conduct of the cabin crew, I am requesting additional compensation. I want this negative and exhausting experience reviewed seriously, the financial and emotional harm to my family addressed, and appropriate action taken against the responsible staff.
