Marks & Spencer Refuses Exchange on Unworn Sock Set Purchased in Wrong Size

I recently purchased two 4-pack sets of socks for my husband from Marks & Spencer but accidentally bought the wrong size. When I went to the store to exchange them for a smaller size, I was informed that socks are considered innerwear and therefore non-returnable. I find this policy inconsistent, especially as the socks are displayed at the checkout area, where countless customers handle them. These socks are secured with plastic clips, so there’s no way they could have been tried on.

To add to the confusion, the customer service representative, Ms. A***, mentioned that exchanges and returns are allowed when purchased online but not in-store. This clearly isn’t a hygiene issue if online purchases are treated differently. I expect a detailed explanation with documented reasoning behind this policy, as it lacks consistency and fairness.
