DistroKid Restricted My Account After Complaints About Prepaid Services

1

I am an independent artist from South Africa using DistroKid Ultimate (Annual – 5 Artists), Mixea and Lyric Blaster under the artist name Nico Fourie. I paid in advance for these services, but several of the features I paid for either did not work or were not delivered. On 18 October 2026, DistroKid escalated my complaint under ticket #4958429 because the lyrics I had paid to distribute were still not appearing on Spotify. Despite this escalation, I did not receive a clear resolution and the lyrics problem remained unsolved. Later, I contacted support again because the Original/Mastered audio choice disappeared from my upload flow, even though my Mixea subscription was active and shown as renewing on 10 September 2027. An older release clearly showed Mixea mastering had been delivered, while a newer release did not reflect this functionality, which suggests I did not receive the full benefit of the service I prepaid for. On 31 October, I followed up through tickets #5062761 and #5062780. Support agents told me they would forward my concerns to another team, but they did not explain why the Mixea functionality was missing or resolve the ongoing lyrics issue I had already paid for. On 1 November 2026 at 16:31 EST, DistroKid informed me that one or more of my releases had been rejected by stores due to “editorial discretion,” that DistroKid would no longer accept releases from me, and that my account features had been restricted, advising me to use another distributor. This message did not specify which releases or which stores were involved, what exactly was found objectionable, or what evidence was used to reach this decision. At the same time, my earlier complaints about paid but undelivered services were still not addressed. The close timing between my repeated complaints and the subsequent restriction on my account makes me concerned there may be a connection, although I cannot prove it and DistroKid has not provided a transparent explanation. As a paying customer, I should be able to question missing or malfunctioning services without ending up with restricted access and unresolved billing issues. Because of these events, I am asking for a full refund for services I paid for but did not receive, including the lyrics distribution that never appeared correctly and the Mixea mastering functionality that disappeared from my uploads. In addition, I request reimbursement of the unused, prepaid portion of my subscriptions that I can no longer use due to the account restriction. I also request a clear, written explanation of which releases and stores were involved in the “editorial discretion” decision, the specific reasons and evidence for restricting my account and refusing further releases, and a good‑faith review of this decision. Finally, I ask for explicit confirmation that pursuing my complaint and refund request will not jeopardise my existing catalogue, my access to legitimately earned royalties, or my reputation as an artist.
