Legacy Ottoman Hotel Refuses to Return My Forgotten Coat Without €200 Fee
I stayed for two nights at the Legacy Ottoman Hotel, on 17 and 18 May, in room 118, as part of a Portuguese group from the travel agency LKtravel, led by guide Mehmet Erge**. My reservation was made through LKtravel/Cristina Silv**, reservation number 250884, with invoice 231002095. After checking out and continuing the trip, I realized on 19 May, already in Ankara, that I had forgotten my coat (kispo) inside the wardrobe in the room. On 20 May, I informed the guide, Mehmet Erge**, who contacted the hotel and later informed me that someone from the hotel was asking for €200 to return the coat. I know that the coat was in fact found by the hotel, because the guide showed me a photo of the coat via WhatsApp. Initially, and because I wanted to recover the coat, I agreed to pay that amount, but when they demanded the €200 to be paid in advance before sending the coat, I felt that this was an abusive attitude and in bad faith, so I refused to proceed under those conditions. On 24 and 27 May I sent two emails directly to the Legacy Ottoman Hotel, asking for the coat to be sent to my home address, and I have not received any response to this day. I am very disappointed both with the attempt to charge an unjustified amount to return an item forgotten in the room and with the hotel’s total lack of response to my written requests. I request that the hotel send my coat to my home address using the official Turkish postal service (PTT), with all shipping costs duly invoiced to me, which I am willing to pay. I ask that this situation be resolved as soon as possible, without any additional or abusive charge beyond the normal and documented shipping costs.
