In July 2024, I purchased a brand-new Chery Tiggo 8 from the Chery Atmo dealership in Ümraniye, Istanbul. On January 22, 2025, at around 2:35 PM, while driving on the highway, I suddenly heard an extremely loud “boom.” Immediately afterward, we heard noises coming from the roof and realized that the panoramic sunroof had shattered. The cracking sounds made it clear that the glass roof had suffered serious damage.
I immediately went to the authorized dealership and requested that the issue be inspected, a case be opened, and the sunroof be repaired under warranty. However, I was told that even if the claim were submitted under warranty, it would likely not be covered. I was informed that the glass alone would cost approximately $2,732, in addition to labor charges. I was also told that a case would be opened, but that I would need to wait at least 15 days. I separately contacted Chery Turkey customer service as well.
I am 33 weeks pregnant, and this vehicle is my only means of transportation. I commute every day from the Anatolian side to the European side of Istanbul for work, and due to my pregnancy, I also need to visit the hospital regularly. Not being able to use my vehicle in case of an emergency poses a serious health and psychological risk for me. During such an unpredictable time as pregnancy, I do not want to be forced to deal with uncertainty over whether this will be covered by warranty, insurance, or paid out of pocket.
I do not accept that a panoramic sunroof in a nearly new vehicle, purchased brand new and shattering on its own while driving normally on the highway, could be considered user error or preemptively excluded from warranty coverage. I request that the sunroof be repaired as quickly as possible under warranty, without any charges to me, and that my hardship and the stress I am experiencing during this time be taken into consideration.
