I Got a Flat Tire Right After Pickup and Avis Charged Me
On July 5, 2025, I rented a car from Avis's Ankara Söğütözü branch. Shortly after picking up the vehicle, I stopped at a café about 100 meters ahead in a covered garage and noticed that the right rear tire was flat. When I contacted the rental office, they informed me that since I had not purchased the additional tire protection package, they could not accept responsibility and suggested the issue may have occurred during my use. I had the tire repaired at a nearby shop recommended by the company, next to where I had parked. The repairman said the tire had been punctured by a nail. As a result, I returned the vehicle, paid the price difference, and switched to another model—covering the tire repair cost out of my own pocket. I find it highly unlikely that something which has happened to me only twice in 17 years of driving my own car would occur within the first minute of using a rental. I also don’t believe the company properly checks tire pressure or damage during the handover process.
