Is Avis a reliable car rental company with deposits and damage claims?

Avis is a well-known car rental company around the world, but customers have had different situations with damage claims and deposits.

Some customers say they were charged for damage they didn't think they did, even weeks after returning the car. For example, a customer in Montpellier, France, was charged €1,559 even though they returned the car in perfect condition, and Avis wouldn't listen to their complaints.

Others have had problems getting their deposits back. A customer in Dubai paid a 3,000 dirham deposit, but it took a long time to get the money back, longer than the stated timeframe.

To be safe, check the car carefully before and after renting it, and take photos with the time stamp of any damage you find. Make sure that any damage that was there before the rental deal is written down.
