On June 6, 2026, an unauthorized charge of approximately $1,870 appeared on my credit card under the description "AIRBNB* HMMM2S5KQ8 LONDON GB" — despite the fact that neither I nor anyone close to me has ever used Airbnb, and I had no Airbnb account prior to this incident. This transaction was not made by me or anyone I know, and we have absolutely no connection to it. After discovering the charge, I was forced to create an Airbnb account for the first time just to be able to contact the company.
As soon as I noticed what had happened, I contacted my bank, filed a dispute, and initiated the necessary chargeback process. However, given the sheer size of this unauthorized transaction, I am also requesting that Airbnb conduct its own investigation, determine which account processed this charge and how it was carried out, and provide me with a clear explanation of how my card information was used.
I am asking Airbnb to urgently investigate this unauthorized transaction, coordinate with my bank as necessary to facilitate the refund of the approximately $1,870, and keep me informed in writing about the outcome of the process.
