From June 6 to June 12, 2025, I rented a home in Rome, Italy through Airbnb. We had a completely smooth experience with the host, followed every instruction, and checked out on time on June 12. Everything appeared fine—until a week later, when the host submitted a claim demanding ₺9,077, accusing us of damaging the TV screen.
We were shocked. We had done absolutely nothing to damage the property. Airbnb contacted us for our side and requested photos or documentation to prove our innocence—yet the photos provided by the host were inconclusive and didn’t prove that we caused any damage. Still, Airbnb placed the burden of proof on us, not the accuser. We submitted our statement and emphasized that we rejected this baseless accusation. In fact, public reviews even mention the host conducting renovations after our stay, which further questions the validity of the claim.
Despite this, Airbnb sided with the host and told us we must pay ₺7,900. We have formally appealed the decision, but this entire experience feels unjust and deeply frustrating. The way Airbnb handled this has destroyed our trust in the platform. We will never use Airbnb again unless they reverse this unfair charge and start protecting guests from clearly abusive claims like this.
