WhatsApp Security Failure Led to Account Theft and Privacy Violation
On October 17, 2025, at 01:29 a.m., I received a message on my phone stating, “An account belonging to you (WhatsApp) is being registered on a new device.” A verification code was also sent. When I woke up in the morning and opened the app, I realized that I had been logged out of WhatsApp.
During the night, someone accessed my account and sent messages to my contacts, pretending to be me and asking for borrowed money. I believe my personal information has been compromised, and I hold WhatsApp responsible for this security breach.
I have never shared my verification code with anyone. I only discovered the issue when I woke up and immediately logged back in to enable two-factor authentication.
I believe WhatsApp has failed to protect my personal data, which constitutes a serious violation of data protection laws. I intend to pursue legal action regarding this matter.
