I have been a Miles & Smiles member for years and have been flying actively with THY for the past 2-3 years. I finally accumulated 17k miles and earned the right to upgrade a previously purchased ticket with 15k miles. When I tried to upgrade my flight, I was initially told it wasn't possible. Upon questioning why, the first response from the call center was that my ticket wasn't eligible for an upgrade. When I asked how I could determine if my ticket was eligible for an upgrade, they said I wouldn't understand and only they could see it. When I requested more information, I was transferred to a supervisor who explained that there are specific quotas for upgrades. However, there is no information about these quotas on either the THY or Miles & Smiles websites. Two days before my flight, I checked the website again and saw that the upgrade option was available, but an additional payment of €260 was required. When I called Miles & Smiles, they told me I couldn't upgrade with miles because there was no available quota. There were still empty seats in business class (a friend who works at THY can check the flight occupancy). My miles will expire at the end of the year, and I am not allowed to use them for my flight due to an unknown quota. This method makes flights attractive for customers, but in the end, they don't honor our rights.
