Turkish Airlines Flight Overbooking and Compensation Issue
Hello, on 03.09.2023 at 10:00 AM, I had a flight to Madrid as part of a tour I purchased. They informed me that there were no available seats on the plane and that the next flight would be at 18:45. I am curious as to how tickets are issued and there are no seats left when the number of seats and ticket buyers are known. When they said we would receive compensation for the overbooking, they mentioned it could not be given at Istanbul Airport and had to be collected at our destination. After landing in Madrid, my return was from Barcelona. Both airports stated they did not handle such processes. Upon returning, when this issue was discussed again at Istanbul Airport, they said the compensation could be collected from certain centers, not at the airport. We were left begging for our own money. It is absurd to deal with such issues in 2023. Why make us run around when this compensation could be handled via IBAN? Finally, when I found the authorized center and went there, they informed me that the process would be completed within 8-10 days. It's disappointing that a well-established company like THY drags out such matters.
