Turkish Airlines Flight Gate Closed Early on April 11, 2024
On April 11, 2024, at Adnan Menderes Airport, it is claimed that the gates for the Turkish Airlines 07:50 flight were closed early without a flight call being made, which is reportedly the first time this has happened with Turkish Airlines. Despite arriving at the gate 2 minutes after the scheduled opening time, we were informed that we would not be allowed to board the plane and that our luggage had already been removed. Two of the passengers affected were under 18 and needed to reach the national team camp, yet they were not taken seriously and were told no assistance could be provided. Additionally, it was the first time we encountered a gate closing so early. It was distressing that our two passengers under 18, who could not complete online check-in and were not assigned an accompanying person, had to handle this issue alone. Our children had been waiting at the airport since 6 AM for the 07:50 flight. They were embarrassed due to being late for the national team camp and having to purchase a second ticket. While purchasing the second ticket, we recorded videos showing that the time between gate opening and closing was never 10 minutes. Furthermore, even with the claim that the gate closes in 10 minutes, it was notable that passengers were still boarding 20 minutes after the closing time. Despite our children being in a position to receive help, they were directed to buy a second ticket, which created a lack of confidence and fear that they would not receive assistance. It was also surprising to be told at the information desk that it was a quiet airport and no name announcements would be made. We are complaining about this situation. Since April 11, we have been unable to reach Turkish Airlines customer service. There is not even a contact person available.
