Regarding our Istanbul-Strasbourg flight with THY flight number TK 1455; since my son had a student ticket, we had to check in as a family with a total of 4 tickets, but in a 1+3 arrangement. Three of our tickets were upgraded to business class. The issue started after this.
My son remained in economy class, which is understandable. As soon as I boarded the plane, I approached the cabin chief, Ms. I***, to explain the situation, and we had the following dialogue:
- Me: Hello, good morning. One of our family members is a student and had to check in separately due to having a student ticket. It seems that three of our tickets were upgraded.
- Ms. I***: We didn't do that.
- Me: By 'we', I mean the airline. I'm referring to THY.
- Ms. I***: We didn't do that. Is it correct for you to say 'we'? Do we call passengers 'you passengers'?
- Me: By 'we', I meant THY. Aren't you a THY staff member? I said, and I added that we are on such different wavelengths that it's not meaningful for me to say anything further.
- Ms. I***: I agree.
Then I went to my seat and sat down. My request was not about getting a positive or negative response but rather about the inability to communicate with a staff member before even getting to the main point.
Frankly, I didn't know how to converse with such a communication-averse staff member in a time of need at one of the largest airlines.
And the following 3 hours were very unpleasant, to be honest.
