SunExpress Forced Check-in & Fees in Dortmund
On June 14, 2025, for our 8:10 AM Dortmund to Izmir flight, despite checking in myself and having a confirmed seat, my boarding pass was changed without my knowledge or consent at bag drop. I didn't make a big deal of it then, thinking I'd just sit in the new seat. But what happened at the gate was a complete nightmare, shared by all passengers.
After our checked bags were taken and we passed security, ground staff at the boarding gate forcibly prevented our personal shoulder bags and carry-on luggage (our allotted 5kg per person) from being taken onto the plane. They shoved our personal shoulder bags violently into checked luggage, charged fees for electronics, and some passengers, having no one to leave their items with, were even forced to abandon their belongings! This led to severe verbal altercations in a chaotic scene.
To experience this dreadful incident with SunExpress, a company we've happily flown with for years, has turned into a constant topic of anger and complaint among passengers throughout the flight. Everyone was put in a truly difficult situation. The tickets clearly stated a 5kg carry-on allowance, yet it was denied. This is an injustice against passenger rights. When asked why, our airline was entirely blamed. After years of satisfaction, we were left utterly shocked and subjected to this forceful, unfortunate demand. We demand that necessary regulations are implemented and that relevant airports show the same consideration to Turkish citizens.
