Sunorama Cruise Reserved My Cruise for January Instead of December
We needed to travel to Tampa, Florida, for business. Since we were already going to be in the United States, we decided to take a cruise from Miami as well. For this reason, I contacted Sunorama Cruise, the Turkish representative of Royal Caribbean.
I clearly explained that we would be traveling to Miami on December 23, 2025, and returning to Turkey from Tampa on January 7, 2026, and that we wanted to take a cruise sometime between those dates. They sent me several cruise itineraries via WhatsApp. Since I had already provided our travel dates in writing, I did not think I needed to separately examine the dates listed on each itinerary. I told them that the Bahamas cruise scheduled for December 26–30 would work for us and made a payment of $1,250. I also arranged all of our hotel and transportation reservations based on this cruise schedule.
According to our plan, we stayed in Miami for two nights. However, on the evening of December 25, I called the company because we still had not received the documents required for boarding the ship. They told me that there could be a delay due to the time difference, but that the necessary documents would definitely be sent by email before we needed to board.
On the morning of December 26, we checked out of our hotel to go to the ship. However, since we still had not received any email, we called the company again. During this conversation, we were told that there had been a mistake and that our reservation had actually been made for January 26–30, 2026, rather than December 26–30, 2025.
While we had been looking forward to a pleasant cruise vacation, we were suddenly left confused and unsure of what to do. Trying to find accommodation during the Christmas period and having all of our plans disrupted was extremely difficult and stressful.
Because of this error, we incurred additional expenses for four nights of hotel accommodation, transportation, food, and other necessities. We paid approximately $1,010 for the additional accommodation and had to spend approximately $500 on transportation and food over those four days. In addition, because the $1,250 payment taken for the original reservation was later refunded to us in Turkish lira rather than in U.S. dollars, we also suffered a financial loss due to the exchange-rate difference.
At the time, the company told us that, if necessary, they could compensate us for the losses we incurred and refund the money we had paid. However, they later changed their position and told us that they could only offer a discount if we purchased another cruise.
Due to the reservation error made by Sunorama Cruise, the Turkish representative of Royal Caribbean, we suffered both financial and personal hardship. I request reimbursement for all of the additional accommodation, transportation, food, and related expenses that I incurred as a direct result of this error.
I also expect Sunorama Cruise to thoroughly review its reservation procedures and make the necessary improvements to prevent other customers from experiencing similar problems. A travel company should carefully verify reservation dates, particularly when the customer has clearly provided the intended travel period in writing. This type of error caused significant financial loss, disruption, stress, and inconvenience, and I expect an appropriate resolution and compensation.
