On February 5, 2025, I purchased a flight ticket through Gotogate Turkey’s website
. I specifically selected the ticket in Turkish Lira (₺) as shown on the site. After entering my credit card details, I received a confirmation email from Gotogate, clearly stating the ticket price as ₺72,604.99.
However, when I later reviewed my credit card statement, I was shocked to see that ₺75,008.20 had been charged instead. This means I was overcharged by ₺2,403.21 compared to the confirmed purchase price. When I contacted my bank (Ziraat Bank), they informed me that Gotogate processed the payment in USD, and the final charge was calculated based on the exchange rate.
This is misleading because at no point during the booking process did the website indicate that the ticket would be billed in USD. The price was displayed in TL only, and I purchased under the assumption that this was the final and binding amount. If the site applies foreign currency conversion, it should be clearly disclosed before purchase, not hidden until after the transaction.
I demand a full refund of the ₺2,403.21 difference and an explanation from Gotogate as to why the advertised price in TL does not match the actual charged amount. If this issue is not resolved, I will consider this an unfair and deceptive sales practice and pursue further action with consumer protection authorities.
