On December 13, 2025, the Gotogate website displayed a total ticket price of $1,151, including all taxes and fees. I completed the payment using my Halkbank card. When I checked my card activity on Monday, December 15, 2025, I saw that $1,198 had been charged by placing my account into a negative balance, even though I did not have sufficient credit limit available. In other words, $47 was charged in excess without my knowledge or consent.
During the payment process, neither the Gotogate website nor Halkbank’s payment interface provided any clear or understandable notice that the final amount to be charged could exceed the displayed price due to exchange rate differences or foreign transaction fees.
Under consumer protection laws and applicable regulations, consumers must be clearly, transparently, and understandably informed of the final amount they will pay at the time of purchase. Since I was not given any such warning, I believe the excess charge constitutes an unjust collection. Both the seller and the bank failed to fulfill their contractual obligations by not disclosing the final payable amount and by collecting funds without my informed consent.
This situation constitutes a violation of the good faith principles set out in Article 5 of Consumer Protection Law No. 6502. Additionally, the Distance Contracts Regulation requires that the “total price” be disclosed to the consumer. Under Article 5/1(c), before the consumer confirms the order, they must be clearly informed of the total price including VAT and any additional costs, as well as how those costs are calculated. These obligations were not fulfilled in my transaction.
For this reason, I request that Gotogate take responsibility for the excess amount charged, initiate the necessary process with Halkbank, ensure the refund of the $47 overcharge to my card, and resolve the hardship I have experienced.
