I Booked a Fuji Tour via GetYourGuide but It Was Canceled Last Minute Without Warning
As a group of 8 women, we personally organized a trip to Japan and booked a private Mount Fuji tour from Tokyo on April 3rd via GetYourGuide, provided by a company called Glocal Japan. Shockingly, we received no confirmation or communication from the tour operator in the days leading up to the tour. The night before, I messaged them myself just to be sure everything was in order.
On the day of the tour, all 8 of us were waiting at the designated meeting point at 8:00 AM as instructed. Just then, I got a message saying the tour had been canceled due to "bad weather." But the weather in Tokyo was just a typical rainy day—nothing extreme. They offered to reschedule for the next day, but we had hotel reservations in Kyoto and couldn’t stay. I even suggested they take us to other tourist attractions within Tokyo instead—but they flat-out refused.
It’s clear they had no intention of running the tour that day and didn’t care how much it disrupted our plans. We ended up booking a similar tour with another provider at a higher price, just so we wouldn’t miss the experience.
If GetYourGuide allows last-minute cancellations like this, there should be some kind of penalty or compensation. We, as travelers, can't cancel at the last minute without losing money—why should providers get away with it? This was unprofessional and put us in a very difficult position. I urge GetYourGuide to better screen its partners and establish fair protections for customers.
