I Canceled My Pension Plan for My Children but Got No Refund from Garanti BBVA
I opened a private pension plan (BES) with Garanti BBVA for each of my three children, intending to save and invest for their future. I paid three installments for each plan. Later, I decided to cancel them to redirect my investment elsewhere. However, the process was deliberately delayed and made complicated with paperwork and the requirement of a spouse’s signature. I eventually managed to cancel the plans. When the principal amount of ₺4500 I had paid was not refunded to my account, I contacted customer service and was told, based on some unclear clause in the contract, that my principal would not be returned. My money was essentially seized. I then tried to close my accounts and cancel my credit and debit cards to sever ties with the bank, but they claimed I couldn’t close the account because it was linked to a canceled card. I now want to end all my ties with this bank. Perhaps losing ₺4500 was the price of realizing this. I had been a customer for years.
