Europcar Skopje Charges $874 for Unverified Damage 24 Hours After Return

On May 22, 2026, I rented a Peugeot 2008 from the Europcar branch at Skopje Airport and returned the vehicle after five days of use. During drop-off, no detailed joint inspection of the vehicle was conducted, no damage assessment report was created, and I signed no documents.

Approximately 24 hours after we returned the vehicle, I was sent photos claiming there were two scratches on the car, and I was informed that my deposit would not be refunded on these grounds. However, we caused no damage to the vehicle during our rental, and no one mentioned any such damage at the time of return. Despite this, the total amount I paid—including an $832 deposit and $42 for alleged fines and fees—was withheld and never refunded.

I submitted complaints regarding the matter to headquarters and via Booking.com by email, but so far no solution has been provided, and my issue remains unresolved. I absolutely refuse to accept the withholding of my deposit based on an inspection conducted long after the vehicle's return without our presence.

I demand that Europcar issue a full refund of the deposit and all collected fees, as we did not damage the vehicle and no damage assessment was conducted at drop-off, along with a written explanation regarding this unfair transaction.
