Europcar North Macedonia Charges Unverified $745 Damage Fee via WhatsApp
We rented a Peugeot 2008 vehicle from Europcar between May 22 and May 27 in North Macedonia, where we traveled for a running event in May. After returning the vehicle without any issues at the end of the rental period and heading to the airport, they sent us a message via WhatsApp shortly before we boarded our flight, claiming there was damage to various parts of the car.
No damage assessment was conducted face-to-face during the vehicle return, no detailed joint inspection took place, and no damage report was provided at the time of drop-off. Subsequently, a deduction of approximately $745 was made from our credit card without providing any photos or concrete documentation regarding the alleged damages.
Although we objected to this situation via WhatsApp and other communication channels, no satisfactory explanation or evidence was provided regarding the alleged damage. We have initiated legal proceedings due to this unfair transaction, and the matter is currently being handled by our lawyer.
We demand a full refund of the approximately $745 charged to our card by Europcar without any proof or transparent explanation. We request that this process be investigated so that others do not experience a similar grievance, and that our issue be resolved immediately.
