DiscoverCars.com Insurance Rejected by Hertz – Forced to Pay Twice

As someone who has rented cars in the Balkans three times before, I am well aware of potential risks. In my fourth rental, since my usual company had no available cars, I booked a 7-day fully insured rental through DiscoverCars.com, selecting Hertz at Pristina Airport, Kosovo for pickup and return.

However, when I arrived to collect the car, Hertz refused to accept my full coverage insurance, claiming their company policy required insurance to be purchased directly from them. Otherwise, they would take no responsibility for damages. I had no choice but to purchase an additional full coverage plan from Hertz for €105, even though I had already paid for insurance through DiscoverCars.com!

Before renting, DiscoverCars.com support assured me that if I provided the invoice for the second insurance, I could get a refund for the initial policy. Yet, when I emailed them, they blamed me, asking, "Why did you pay again if you already had full coverage?" After explaining that Hertz refused to honor their insurance, I received a final response stating that their coverage was different, so no refund would be issued.

How is DiscoverCars.com still partnering with companies that refuse to accept their insurance? If their coverage is not universally accepted, why don’t they warn customers upfront? I refuse to pay for two separate insurance policies for one rental.

DiscoverCars.com, I demand a full refund for the insurance you sold me, which was useless! Has anyone else faced this issue?
