Booking.com Overcharged Before Hotel Stay

Booking.com promised that payment would be taken at the hotel, however, the money was debited from our account over two months before the check-in date. When we attempted to receive an explanation, we were unable to contact their customer support. Our problems began even before the trip. We severely regret booking with them today. If something happens during our journey, we are on our own. Furthermore, the contact person listed for direct reservations with the hotel is unresponsive. They ask to send a message, but there is no answer. We reported this problem to Booking.com, however, their customer care was unhelpful. We've hit a brick wall and have no idea what to do.
