I have an existing account on Academia.edu, but I have never started a Premium membership nor upgraded to any paid plan. Despite this, on 11/28/2025, a charge of $88 was made to my Garanti Bank credit card with the description “Academia*Subscription Academia.edu.” I absolutely did not initiate this subscription, did not authorize it, and had no knowledge that such a charge would be made until it appeared on my statement.
As soon as I noticed the transaction, I filed a dispute with my bank, Garanti, stating that this was an unauthorized charge made without my knowledge or consent. The transaction appears on my card statement as a one-time charge, and I did not receive any notification email or confirmation screen related to this payment.
I request that this unauthorized charge be canceled, that the $88 withdrawn from my card be fully refunded, and that any Premium or other paid membership that may have been created or activated on my account without my consent be immediately and permanently terminated. I also ask that a full investigation be conducted and that I be informed of the results, so that my grievance can be resolved.
