Academia.edu Charged 3.000₺ Without Consent After Free Trial
On 14 August 2025, I signed up for a one-month free Premium membership on Academia.edu. However, without my knowledge or approval, 3.000₺ was withdrawn from my Ziraat Bank credit card for a one-year subscription. At no point was I informed that such a high charge would be applied after the trial, nor did I provide consent for an automatic renewal. When I contacted customer service to request a refund, they simply stated that no refund would be issued, which is unacceptable. As a user, I had no prior knowledge that my free trial would result in such a costly charge, and I should have been clearly notified beforehand. I demand the immediate refund of the 3.000₺ wrongly taken from my account and the cancellation of the unauthorized subscription. If this issue is not resolved promptly, I will escalate my complaint to the Consumer Arbitration Committee and pursue all necessary legal actions to protect my rights.
