On 07/07/2025, I started a Premium trial on Academia.edu for 30₺, only to test the service. I never enabled automatic payments and did not link my account to any recurring billing. However, today I was shocked to discover that 3000₺ was withdrawn from my Garanti Bank credit card without my approval, consent, or prior notification.
I did not receive any invoice or email confirmation about this charge, which makes the situation even more unacceptable. This is the first time such a transaction has happened on my account. To resolve it, I sent an email to Academia.edu customer service, but I have not received any response yet. I demand the immediate cancellation of my Premium membership, a full refund of the 3000₺, and a refund receipt/deposit confirmation as proof once the money is returned. Customers must not be charged hidden or unauthorized fees after a small trial. Academia.edu must address this issue urgently and ensure transparency in their billing practices.
