I Got a Message on WhatsApp from a +234 Number—I Don’t Know Them

On April 21, 2025, I received a WhatsApp message from a number starting with the +234 country code. The message said, “Hello, nice to meet you”. I have no idea who this person is, and I have no connection to Nigeria, where this code originates.

I immediately blocked the number, but I’m very disturbed by how they got access to my phone number in the first place. I want to clearly state that if my number is ever used to open any kind of account, or if any debt is issued in my name through any of my bank accounts, I will not accept any responsibility. I believe my number was used without my consent, and I hold WhatsApp fully accountable for this breach.

I did not share my contact information with anyone from abroad, and this type of unsolicited communication is both invasive and alarming.

WhatsApp, I demand action. Investigate this case and explain how unauthorized parties are contacting users. Protect our data and take immediate steps to prevent this kind of unauthorized access. I will not tolerate the misuse of my personal information.
