I Received a Suspicious WhatsApp Message from Nigeria (+234)

On Sunday, April 9, 2024, I received a random WhatsApp message from a number with the +234 country code, which simply said "Hello". Upon investigating, I discovered that this code belongs to Nigeria. I want to make it absolutely clear that I have no personal or business connections with anyone in that country, and this unsolicited message left me feeling very uneasy.

I immediately blocked the number and the message, but the fact that my private phone number was accessed without my consent is deeply troubling. I am extremely concerned that my WhatsApp account or personal data may have been compromised. I also worry about the potential misuse of my information—such as identity theft, unauthorized purchases, or even the creation of a company or debt in my name.
