WeChat won’t verify my new number, how can I switch accounts without losing my data?

Follow the "Change Phone Number" steps in the WeChat app if the company won't check your new phone number: Click on "Me," then "Settings," then "Account & Security," then "Phone Number," and finally "Change Phone Number."

You'll enter your new phone number on that screen and get a verification text message. The system will then update your number while keeping your chats, contacts, and account information.

Choose "Can't receive verification code?" in the phone-number screen if you can't get to your old number or the SMS verification doesn't work.

After that, you'll be shown how to prove who you are using a related email address, a trusted device, or the Tencent Help Center. Once you do this, you can switch to the new number without losing any data.

Make sure you are logged into your old number or device before switching. Then, make a recent backup of your chat logs by going to Me → Settings → General → Chat Log Migration on iOS or Backup & Migrate Chats on Android. This way, you won't lose any messages during the switch.
