I Face Broken Luggage and Year-Long Delay in Compensation from Qatar Airways

On June 9, 2024, after my flight with Qatar Airways from Bali to Ankara Esenboğa Airport, I discovered that my suitcase had been damaged. The safety belt had been removed and the luggage was left partially opened. A report was filed at Esenboğa Airport with officials, recorded under report number ESB3872313. The damaged luggage was valued at $85 by airport staff.

Since then, I have contacted Qatar Airways more than 10 times regarding this matter. At the airline’s request, I submitted my ticket and matching baggage documents completely and without any omissions. Initially, I was told that my claim was under review. Later, I was informed of alleged “missing documents,” which unnecessarily delayed the process again. Despite resending all the required documents, the airline only offered $30 as compensation. I accepted this offer and even provided my bank account details, but after more than a year, no payment has been made.

In June, I received one last communication from the airline, but since then, all of my follow-up emails have been ignored. While no items were lost from inside the luggage, the suitcase itself was broken and tampered with, causing significant frustration.

I am requesting that Qatar Airways honor the $30 compensation offer I accepted and also pay an additional adjustment for inflation due to the long delay. It is unacceptable for a global airline to keep a customer waiting for over a year without resolving such a simple claim.
