Mercedes Wants to Charge Me for an Unusable SOS System
For approximately the past nine months, my 2018 Mercedes-Benz E220 has continuously displayed an SOS system malfunction warning. The SOS indicator remains illuminated on the dashboard, and the display repeatedly shows that the system is not functioning. This constant warning is distracting while driving and creates the impression that there is a serious fault with the vehicle.
When I took the vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz service center, I was informed that the warning could not simply be cleared and that the related hardware would have to be replaced. However, I explained that the Mercedes SOS system is not actively supported or functional in Türkiye, so it makes little sense to require an expensive parts replacement for a feature that cannot be used. Despite this, I was told there was no software solution available and no alternative remedy was offered.
I do not believe it is reasonable to charge customers to replace components for a feature that is not operational in my country. Instead, I request that Mercedes-Benz provide a software update or other no-cost solution to permanently remove the warning message. I do not accept paying for the replacement of a component associated with a service that is unavailable, as this creates unnecessary inconvenience and undermines customer confidence.
I ask Mercedes-Benz Türkiye to review this issue carefully, provide a customer-focused solution, and permanently resolve the unnecessary SOS warning at no cost so that the vehicle can be used without constant alerts for a non-functional feature.
