Marriott Cappadocia Charged Me an Unexpected $155 at Checkout

During our conversation with the Nevşehir Marriott Cappadocia Hotel on August 22, 2026, we requested a family room for the night of August 22 through the morning of August 24. We were told that no suitable family room was available, but that two separate rooms could be provided instead for a discounted total price of $310. Based on this quoted price, we specifically asked about and considered cave boutique hotels and hotels offering balloon views in the area. However, because we believed the quoted price was reasonable, we declined those alternatives, left our home, and traveled to the hotel.

When we checked in, we were given the same information again and were told that the total payment was $310, which we paid. At no point were we told that there was any remaining balance, additional charge, or different amount that we would later be required to pay. Despite the difficulty of reaching many of the area's attractions from the hotel and the additional driving we had to do each day, we accepted the accommodation solely because we had been told that the price was reasonable.

On the day of checkout, we were suddenly asked at the front desk to pay an additional $310. Contrary to the information we had been given during the booking process and at check-in, the hotel first claimed that this was the price for a single room, then said it was for one night, and finally suggested that the staff member had simply forgotten to mention it. For approximately one hour, we were forced to explain ourselves in front of our children as though we were the ones at fault. During our conversation with the hotel manager, the manager acknowledged that we had been given incorrect and incomplete information. However, the manager then essentially blamed us by saying that we should have known the hotel's prices and that we should have “understood” that the quoted price was already very reasonable.

Ultimately, in addition to the $310 we had agreed to and already paid at check-in, the hotel demanded another $310. After what felt like a negotiation, and despite acknowledging their own mistake, the hotel told us that they would not allow us to check out unless we paid an additional $155. As a result, we were forced to make an additional $155 payment that had never been disclosed to us and that we had never agreed to, bringing the total amount we paid to approximately $464.

The entire situation occurred because the hotel provided incorrect and incomplete information and then attempted to impose an additional charge on us after the fact. We were subjected to unnecessary tension in front of our children, our departure was unnecessarily delayed, our plans were disrupted, and the end of our vacation was extremely unpleasant.

First and foremost, I request a refund of the $155 that was unfairly demanded from us and that we were effectively forced to pay. I also expect the hotel to take seriously the stress and inconvenience we experienced in front of my family, especially our children, as well as the time we lost and the negative impact this situation had on the end of our vacation. I request a clear apology from hotel management and expect the hotel to acknowledge its responsibility for the incorrect information provided to us and take appropriate steps to remedy both the financial and personal inconvenience we experienced.
