Home Depot Store Credit Denied Because Original Purchaser Was Absent

I received a Home Depot store credit from a return that my boyfriend Gabe made, and when I tried to use it today at the Wesley Chapel store, I was told I could not use it because he had to be present and show his ID. This was very frustrating because the credit was given to me to use, and I was not informed beforehand that it could not be used by anyone else. I would like Home Depot to resolve this by allowing me to use the store credit that was issued from the return, or by reissuing the credit in a way that I can use it myself without my boyfriend having to be present.
