Customs and Hidden Fees for EU-Origin Guess Shoes

I recently ordered a pair of Loafer shoes with tracking number #CU031010904DE from Guess EU, and I was excited about my purchase. However, to my surprise, the shoes got held up at customs, and the headache began.
The system indicated that customs duties would be calculated, which I was okay with, assuming I'd pay them. Today, the courier contacted me, informing me that I needed to deal with a customs agency to collect my shoes. Seriously? I'm just buying a single pair of shoes to wear, not running a business.
Adding insult to injury, the customs company insists that I pay the duty to receive my shoes. If I had known about all this hassle, I would never have made the purchase. Now, I had to cancel the order, and on top of that, I have to wait a whole month for a refund. This is beyond frustrating.
Guess, please be transparent about customs charges when selling on your site. I've ended up as the victim of this unexpected ordeal.
