I purchased an Acer Nitro 5 laptop with 8 GB RAM from Vatan Bilgisayar on 08.02.2023. Initially, I inquired about the version with 16 GB, but I was informed it wasn't available, so I opted for the 8 GB variant. Following this, I contacted Acer customer service to inquire if adding additional RAM would affect the warranty. I was assured that it shouldn't be an issue. I found compatible RAM and added it without any problems. About 9 months later, the laptop suddenly failed to function. Even when connected to the power, it wouldn't receive any power.
After taking the device to the authorized service, I received a call today. I was informed that due to a faulty attachment of the RAM cover (which can only be attached in one way), a short circuit occurred in the RAM, causing damage to the laptop. I was told that replacing the motherboard would cost around ₺47,000. Currently, the laptop is being sold for about ₺38,000 with upgraded specifications, also at Vatan Bilgisayar.
It seems incomprehensible to me how the RAM, which worked flawlessly for nine months, could suddenly cause a short circuit and render the laptop out of warranty. When I asked the service representatives about this, they simply ended the conversation, suggesting that we could legally enforce our rights. At Vatan Bilgisayar, I explained the situation, but I was informed that they were only sellers and held no responsibility.
I am convinced that the issue does not lie with the laptop's RAM. Presumably, due to the difference between the 8 GB model they offered and the 16 GB model, they incorrectly assumed that the RAM was responsible for the laptop's damage without verifying the product.
