On our THY flight from Basel to Dubai on 24.05.2024, scheduled to depart at 18:55 and arrive at 05:50, we were supposed to land in Istanbul at 23:10 and continue to Dubai at 00:30. The plane landed at the stated time, but it took about 40 minutes to park. We thought we would be met at the gate and transferred to the next flight, but there was no one there. We took a bus that took another 10 minutes.
At the international transfer point, the time when I scanned my ticket must be visible in the system, it was around 00:00, and the last call for the flight was displayed on the board. There was still no one around to assist with the transfer. We ran for about 10 minutes from the international transfer point to gate F14. If there were a competition, our family would have won first place. My husband ran to the gate agent and told him we were here, and my wife and daughter were just 20 meters behind. The agent told the other to close the gate and not let us in. Despite another agent mentioning that a Turkish family had arrived, he insisted on closing the gate.
Thankfully, the other agent didn't listen and let us board the plane. The system must show the exact times and locations where the tickets were scanned. If the time between the two flights is limited, why sell the tickets this way? We had to board the plane in a rush without any spare t-shirts or vests. We later discussed among ourselves that our luggage probably didn't make it since we boarded last minute. When we arrived in Dubai, our luggage was indeed missing. Were we surprised? No, not at all.
The next day, our luggage arrived, but my suitcase was broken. Additionally, we had to spend an extra day in our soaked t-shirts. If you wish, I can send pictures of the other dents and scratches on the suitcase. You can see how embarrassed we were by checking the airport cameras.
