Turkish Airlines Open Ticket Issue for My Daughter and Me
In August 2023, upon the request of the visa agency, I purchased tickets for my 5-year-old daughter and myself. Due to the visa not being ready in time, we converted these tickets to open tickets for future use. We later bought new tickets and completed our journey. When we wanted to use our open tickets, which we had purchased through Obilet, we were informed by the main airline company THY & Anadolu Jet during a phone call that if there was a price difference for the new ticket, we would need to pay this amount along with a penalty fee set by the airline. We were told a reasonable penalty fee and agreed to the process based on this information. Considering all this, when we wanted to use our open tickets, they not only charged the reasonable penalty fee but also tried to make us pay for new tickets at a higher price than the original ones we purchased. For international flights, they do not specify the penalty fee for open tickets on their website, and during the phone call for the open ticket process, they mention a very different penalty fee, causing financial distress as the largest airline company in their country. It's worth thinking twice! Trying to make us pay a higher price for an open ticket a second time is not a pricing policy but an injustice. While I have already paid for a service I couldn't use, I do not accept your demand for more payment and state that I will seek my rights if no solution is provided. I hope my complaint is taken into consideration so that no one falls into the THY open ticket trap.
