Turkish Airlines Flight Change Policy for Uncertain Region
I purchased a ticket with THY to fly to Egypt on October 30, 2023, for a short vacation with my family. I was aware that the ticket did not allow for changes or cancellations when I chose it. However, as we all know, a conflict between Palestine and Israel unfortunately erupted on October 7, 2023. Given the frequent public discussions about the possibility of this conflict spreading to neighboring countries, my family, especially my spouse, and friends have been understandably anxious about traveling to Egypt. During my conversations with THY customer service, I was informed that THY allows changes for flights to countries in the region between October 7 and November 30, but these changes must be to the 'same destination' and the new flight date must be no later than January 10, 2024. While I can somewhat understand the same destination requirement, isn't January 10, 2024, overly optimistic for the situation in the region to stabilize?
I believe THY should positively consider these cancellation requests, which are based on very human concerns, or at the very least, allow the tickets to be changed to different destinations and used over a longer period.
