I Experienced Inconvenience Due To the Flight Cancellations of Turkish Airlines
On December 23, 2023, I purchased two economy class tickets for the THY flight from Sabiha Gokcen to London (Stansted) at 14:05, and two economy class return tickets for December 25, 2023, at 14:55 from London Stansted to Sabiha Gokcen. After completing the apron and check-in procedures, we were verbally informed at the boarding area, half an hour before the flight, that the flight was canceled due to operational reasons. As we were traveling for business, we sought information from the THY counter to address our inconvenience. However, no staff attended to us, and we were told that tickets might be available for the next day's flight.
We managed to take the Sabiha Gokcen-London flight an hour later with Pegasus by paying an additional ₺5,900. Upon arrival, we were informed that our return flight was also canceled in the system due to the cancellation of our outbound flight by THY. During a call with THY customer service at 11:55 pm to address our inconvenience, we were informed that the return flight was canceled because it was connected, and if desired, a new flight date could be provided for the outbound flight, with the return flight on the existing date of December 25.
Since there were no flights or availability in the relevant week and we needed to travel and return for business, we accepted this condition. Consequently, we were charged an additional service fee of ₺7,514. On the same day, we had to pay an extra ₺5,900 for a replacement ticket for our canceled flight and an additional ₺7,500 for our return flight.
Throughout the process, no steps were taken to address our inconvenience. THY unjustly inconveniences its passengers due to its operational inadequacies and financially penalizes them under the guise of service fees. Our complaint with the THY General Directorate continues.
