TikTok Must Improve Ad Safety After Payment Scam

On February 1, 2026, I fell victim to a fraud scheme I reached through an advertisement on TikTok. The ad directed me to a fake website that imitated sahibinden.com, and through that link I attempted to purchase a product. Trusting the ad I saw on TikTok, I made an EFT payment of 6,250 TL from my Yapı Kredi account to the account information provided on the fake site, and only afterward realized that I had been scammed. These fraudulent schemes generally work by directing users to call the phone numbers shown in the images or contact them via WhatsApp, and then sending fake links through those channels. I believe TikTok is responsible in this incident because it allowed a misleading and fraudulent advertisement that directs users to a fake website to be published and shown to users. A platform that large and widely used should conduct much stricter checks on advertisements, especially those leading to payment and shopping pages, and should block and remove advertisers and links reported or suspected of fraud as quickly as possible. As an additional example of how these fraudulent contents circulate on social media, I am also sharing this link: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/17gVi8z***/. I request that the advertisement and the advertiser in question be investigated, that similar fraudulent ads and accounts be permanently removed from the platform, and that TikTok improve its ad control and security mechanisms so that other users do not suffer the same victimization. In addition, I expect an explanation regarding this incident and information on what kinds of measures TikTok will take to prevent such fraudulent advertisements from appearing again.
