Shell Station Overfilled My Tank Causing Fuel Gauge Damage and Refused Responsibility
On October 31, 2024, I visited the Shell station near Vatan Computer in Niğde to refuel my vehicle. I requested a fuel fill, and the attendant informed me that he had added 32 liters (despite my vehicle having a 45-liter tank that was already half full). He also claimed that the fuel tank had a hole, causing the gas to spill out. Upon returning to my car, I noticed that the fuel gauge was not functioning. When I consulted mechanics, they explained that the issue was likely with the float, caused by overfilling the tank. I returned to the station and was told to come back in the morning to speak with the station manager. The next morning, I met with the on-site vehicle official, and we inspected the tank together, confirming there was no leak. The manager stated that the gauge failure was not their fault and even offered just 2 liters of fuel, saying, "Even if overfilled, only 2 liters extra could have gone in." I suggested checking the camera footage to verify the fuel amount, as 2 liters would not solve the issue, and I declined the offer. Later, when contacted by someone from Shell’s headquarters, they responded dismissively, claiming the gauge was already bound to break and they could not assist further. I made it clear I would file a formal complaint, and I intend to pursue this matter legally to its conclusion.
