Ryanair Forced Passenger to Abandon Luggage Over 1 cm Size Dispute

November 17, 2025 12:23 AM2

On November 14, 2024, I experienced a serious hardship on my Ryanair flight from Venice to Berlin departing at 3:00 PM (reservation code: E2P6GK). Even though I arrived at the airport three hours before departure, there was no prior warning or check regarding my cabin baggage. I have traveled many times with different airlines in the past and never had any issues with my standard cabin bag. At the boarding gate, my bag—being carried by my 17-year-old son—was suddenly measured, and I was told it exceeded the limit by 1 cm and was asked to pay 18 euro. I wanted to pay the fee, but my card transaction failed, and no cash payment option was offered. Because my trip involved a connection, missing this flight would have meant missing my next flight as well. Under extreme stress, my son and I were left helpless, and I was forced to remove some items from my bag into my purse and leave behind belongings worth approximately $115. During this process, the staff provided no assistance, gave no explanation, and offered no solution. Because of the psychological trauma and distress we experienced, our vacation was completely ruined. I am requesting that Ryanair compensate me for my financial loss, including the value of my baggage and the items inside it, and issue an apology for the psychological trauma we endured. I also ask that necessary measures be taken to ensure that other passengers do not experience similar situations in the future.
