Einhell GC-GP 1045 Failed Immediately and Koçtaş Denied My Refund

On May 29, 2026, I purchased an Einhell GC-GP 1045 garden pump from the Koçtaş store in Bornova, İzmir. Although the market price of this product was approximately $108, I chose to buy it from a well-known corporate retailer and paid $177 for it, trusting the brand and expecting reliable service.

Unfortunately, the real disappointment began when I took the product home and installed it. I followed the user manual exactly and filled the pump with water as instructed. However, from the very first minute of operation, the pump leaked air, produced very weak water pressure, and repeatedly entered standby mode due to motor protection. Meanwhile, my older and less powerful pump continued to operate perfectly on the same well. Despite being a brand-new 1.5 HP pump, the Einhell unit failed to perform its basic function.

After installation, two separate plumbing professionals inspected the system. Both independently confirmed that the problem was not related to my plumbing or installation and that the fault was clearly within the pump itself. While researching the issue, I also found numerous consumer complaints indicating that this model suffers from recurring seal and gasket defects that prevent it from pumping water properly. Many users have reported the same problem.

The day after my purchase, on May 30, I returned to the Bornova Koçtaş store with the product, invoice, and delivery documentation (Invoice/Delivery No. 20010052905600214514) and requested a refund. However, the store manager rejected my request, claiming that the product had been exposed to water and had already been installed. This justification is unreasonable because it is impossible to determine whether a water pump is defective without filling it with water and testing it under normal operating conditions.

Despite explaining this, the store management refused to consider my position. They stated that they could not evaluate the product and redirected all responsibility to the authorized service center. When I requested that the store send the product to service on my behalf, I was told that they do not provide such assistance and that I would have to handle the process myself.

I also contacted Koçtaş customer service, but instead of helping resolve the matter, they directed me back to the store, leaving me trapped between the store and the call center without any solution.

Because this product is clearly defective and failed during its first use, I request that my consumer rights regarding a faulty product be respected and that the full purchase amount of $177 be refunded immediately.
