I rented a car from Budget Rent A Car in Sarajevo through Booking.com, where I had already purchased full insurance coverage in advance. However, when I arrived at the rental desk, the staff refused to accept the Booking-provided insurance and forced me to pay $495 for a new insurance policy on the spot.
That’s not all. I had reserved an Octavia for pickup at 11:00 AM, but I wasn’t given a car until around 1:30 PM—and it wasn’t even the model I booked. They handed me a Mercedes, which I hadn’t requested and which likely came with hidden pricing tactics.
Even after paying for the extra full insurance, they still charged me an additional €300 deposit, which felt excessive given the supposed “comprehensive” coverage. The entire process felt misleading, slow, and designed to push extra charges on travelers who are left with no choice but to accept them or cancel.
Budget, this is unacceptable. I demand a full refund for the unauthorized $495 insurance, and clarification on why my original policy was ignored. If you promote transparency and global brand trust, you need to start by respecting the agreements made through your official booking partners.
