BMW 3.20i Has Melting Door Handles and Peeling Steering Wheel Leather in 2 Years
I purchased a brand-new BMW 3.20i sedan, which has only done 60,000 km, but starting from the second year, the steering wheel leather began to peel, and the front two interior door handles started melting and deforming. When touched, the material sticks to your hand, transfers residue, and even crumbles. Despite keeping my car in a closed garage, maintaining it meticulously, and only servicing it at an authorized BMW service center, these problems have occurred. If this is the result with such care, I can’t imagine what would happen without it. BMW or Borusan cannot claim this is caused by the consumer. Additionally, the claim that "goodwill is assessed if serviced only at authorized centers" is clearly untrue. This issue appears to be a manufacturing defect, as evidenced by the hundreds of complaints on this platform regarding the same problem. Moreover, the rear door handles, which use a different material, show no such issues. I reported the problem to the authorized service center where I regularly go, providing photos and videos as evidence. However, the response I received was dismissive. I also called BMW and Borusan several times, but they didn’t even bother to respond. Of course, I could pay out of pocket to replace these parts in a car I purchased brand new, but if the fault is not mine, why should I bear the cost? Despite these being relatively small amounts for BMW or Borusan, and most importantly, clearly a fault on their part, they offered no positive resolution. It seems that a brand claiming to be a global giant has allowed its reputation for quality to deteriorate. Lastly, most of my family and close relatives drive either new or second-hand BMWs. BMW doesn’t care about the impact of such small and unfair practices on customer loyalty. To add, during my initial conversation with the service and BMW customer care, I was told that the steering wheel airbag would be replaced free of charge. When I asked why, they admitted it was a manufacturing defect and could only be replaced with an original part.
