Defective Coffee Machine from Amazon

After only two weeks of use, the coffee machine I purchased from Amazon began to malfunction. I wasted no time and returned it within the time frame specified for returns. I've been communicating with the customer service department via message since last month. They keep assuring me that the problem has already been reported to the warehouse, but I have to wait. Nonetheless, they informed me today that the product is severely damaged and that they will not issue a refund because the return window has passed and I am too late to return it. I trusted the seller because the item was fulfilled by Amazon. I can't help but feel like an innocent bystander. Shouldn't the warehouse ensure that the product is free of flaws before shipping it out? What was the impetus for the sale in the first place?
